Scuba diving is an avocation and hobby that is very community-oriented and team-centered.  It is an adventurous activity that embraces nature and fosters in its participants a sense of responsibility for our environment and one’s fellow scuba divers.

           This winter & spring, FUMA and Dive Connections are offering the entry level PADI Open Water Diver as well as advanced and leadership level programs. The Orientation meeting will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, February 8 at the pool.  Training will take place in the FUMA Aquatics Center Saturday afternoons beginning February 11th and followed by qualification dives April 21-22 at Lake Rawlings located in Rawlings, Virginia.

The cost of the programs is:

          These prices include all instruction and classroom materials, use of scuba equipment for pool and open water training and two days of Lake Rawlings quarry fees. Students will need to provide their own mask, snorkel, booties and fins. If they do not already own this personal gear, Dive Connections has a Personal Gear Package for $227.

          To register for the class, please download the Scuba Class Enrollment Set which contains and explanation of the program for your records, registration data, releases and a medical statement.  Also please download the Lake Rawlings Release which is for the dive site operator..  Print, complete and most importantly sign all the forms.  Then fax them back to Dive Connections at 434-964-9349.  You can mail a check or call and we'll accept your credit card over the phone.
 

Sail & Dive the Bahamas

March 10-17, 2012 - Venture Crew 130 and Dive Connections is heading to the BAHAMAS!!!  A week long cruise with Blackbeard Cruises will take us to the beautiful reefs of Grand Bahama where we’ll cook out on the beach and then, sail on to Bimini for more diving and a visit to Shark Lab, a facility run by Univ. of Miami and Dr. Sam Gruber.  Here we’ll learn from experts about these wondrous creatures.  Participants will earn a National Geographic Specialty Diver certification from PADI.  The cost of the trip is $1,295 excluding transportation to Grand Bahama.  Meals, accommodations, equipment and diving are all included.

          If your cadet is interested in the trip, and the trip is open to anyone ages 14 to 20 who is or becomes a Venture Crew member (nominal $22 fee), just download the Trip Application and Releases and the Venture Crew Application and send or fax them in to Dive Connections 434-964-9349.  We'll give you a call and work out any details or concerns with you.  Please be aware that we are also looking for adult leaders for the trip.

Venture Crew 130 - A Brief Description

          A Venture Crew is a club for boys and girls ages 14 to 20 operated under charter from the Boy Scouts of America.  It has a very similar mission as the Scouts namely to promote leadership and character development in youth, but functions in more of a club manner.  A Venture Crew is run by its teen members and they are supported by trained counselors who help them plan activities including high adventure trips, community projects, fund raising activities and much more.  Venture Crew 130 is sponsored by Dive Connections.
